The following was shared at a recent Orange County seminar:

Statistics on 2013
Individual & Family Philanthropy
95.4% of households give to charity.

The average annual household contribution is $2,974.

Americans gave $335.17 billion in 2013. This reflects a 4.4% increase from 2011.

Corporate giving held steady in 2013 at $16.76 billion.

Foundation giving increased in 2013 to $50.28 billion–a 5.7% increase from 2011.

In 2013, the largest source of charitable giving came from individuals at $241.32 billion, or 72% of total giving, followed by foundations.

In 2013, the majority of charitable dollars went to religion (31%), education (16%), human services (12%), and grantmaking foundations (11%).

The United States of America is the most philanthropic, generous nation in the world! In 2013 alone, we donated $335 billion. The majority of those donations came from individuals like you and I. The ministries that The Barnabas Group (“TBG”) supports must be capable contenders for those funds to ensure that as much funding as possible is allocated to furthering the Lord’s Kingdom.

Matthew 10:16 states:
“…be as shrewd as serpents and as innocent as doves.”

To that end, TBG is continually hosting free seminars to empower its ministries. Most recently, TBG hosted a seminar on “Becoming a Ministry Worth Investing In.” e3 Partners generously donated their Board Room where approximately 20 ministries gathered to learn about the principles related to excellence in stewardship and vision casting.

Fred Bumpass, a CPA and the founder of Ministry Funding Solutions, led the seminar. Prior to creating Ministry Funding Solutions, Fred was a former staff leader at Crown Ministries. His financial background and in depth understanding of donor procurement provides him with unique insight into the challenges of non-profit funding.

Several key seminar takeaways included:

Yesterday’s donors are today’s investors. People want to see a return on their investments. Is your ministry changing lives?
You must cast the vision. Talking about what you have done is great, but you must passionately clarify what your plans are for the future. That is what people will give towards.

Having a God-sized ministry plan and a “case for support” is critical. Investors want to know how you will implement your vision, and why you are deserving of investment.

Dan Hitzhusen of e3 Partners was in attendance, and stated the following about the seminar:

“Thanks to Fred for taking the time to be with us. The content and teaching were great, and those who attended were encouraged and inspired to excellence!”

Fred held a similar TBG seminar in Orange County last year for over 45 ministries. His insights and guidance have been invaluable to our ministries!
